Even from the strangest places.

On my last post I talked about how plus-sized ladies have to deal with comments, questions and advice from people who feel they know how it is to live our lives and therefore can advice us on the best way to do so even though they haven’t dealt with what we go through everyday because of our size. Total strangers coming up to you to query your lifestyle choice because you are not small sized , having to defend yourself to people whose opinions shouldn’t even matter in the first place because it is your body and no one else has a right to deciding how it should be.Today I am going to be sharing with you all a similar occurrence that happened in my presence to an acquaintance at the most unlikely place and for the strangest reason.
No one is a stranger to fruit salad, when we combine different kinds of fresh fruits, any of our favorite nuts and heavy cream to make a delicious appetizer, very yummy especially when refrigerated.

Okay so back to my experience, if you are Nigerian like me then you are definitely familiar with those stores that sell the fruits in pre-packaged containers for people to buy.Well on our way home we decided to patronize a lady selling fruit salad at a nearby store and my acquaintance requested for extra groundnut and heavy cream to be added to her package for which she was going to pay the woman and to my absolute surprise this lady actually told her in pidgin English “ ah ah you no Dey watch your weight ", I was very shocked because she was actually buying fruits and we are always “advised”to eat fruits and stop eating heavy foods even if they do not know what constitutes our daily meal plan and this is a seller of fruits still advising her to watch her weight. It was really funny and annoying to me at the same time and I elected not to purchase fruit salad from her anymore from that day forward. I still have a lot of experience from different people about my weight but I want to hear from you also about the unlikely places where you have been told that you are too big or too fat for certain things or reasons so please like and engage.

  1. The fruit seller should first learn how to talk to customers. She’s rude. I remember one time I went to the market to get something and one market woman started calling me orobo which means fat girl. I just turned back and told her she’ll eat her good herself since she doesn’t know how to talk. And I didn’t patronise her even though I wanted to

    1. Having to deal with the day to day embarrassment that comes from negative comments from follow humans who are not better off is annoying
I have heard countless experiences on my size from even friends,I think I had the most recent and funny experience weeks ago
A certain course mate asked for my help in regards to making the right choices in purchasing certain outfits, which I agreed to.We got to the store and I decided to make choices for her because she said she did not have a choice and then I picked a certain shirt and asked her if she liked it she shouted and said” nooooo why would you be selecting clothes for me like that knowing you are fat and I am thinner” I looked at her and she repeated Adipose tissues meaning fatty tissues.I was so embarrassed and angry that I did not know when I asked her to never ulter those words again especially in public .

Lolsss this brings me back to the countless times I had to deal with comments on my size from market women, bus drivers or bike men..talking about how they can’t carry me because I am too big, or I should pay more because of my size or when they tell you that don’t you know you are like three people combined without even feeling guilty just because they think it’s in jest and don’t care about how you feel. Plus sized women over the world have to don an extra armor just to deal with daily insulting comments . Thank you very much for sharing your story with me
